寒假我读了妈妈给我买的《老人与海》这本书。读了这本书我的心久久难以平静，这位平凡却又可敬的老人使我明白一个道理：做人不应该被任何困难所压倒，应该尽自己最大的努力与生活中的困难顽强斗争。
这本书是著名作家海明威的作品，讲述了一位古巴老渔夫圣地亚哥连续八十四天没捕到鱼，终于在第八十五天钓到了一条重一千五百磅的大马林鱼。老人在船上与大鱼周旋搏斗了三天，最终将大鱼杀死绑在小船的一边。在归程中陆续遭到鲨鱼的袭击，他用尽了一切手段来反击，可回港时只剩下鱼头鱼尾和鱼骨架的故事。
每当我读到老爷爷与鲨鱼斗争的情节时，我的心里都十分紧张，可是老爷爷总是用乐观的精神去解决。读到这里，我不由想起自己无论做什么事只要有一点不顺利就会退缩，甚至于有时还会说几句垂头丧气的话，特别是那次妈妈带我去游戏池的事：那天，我们来到游泳池边，妈妈先示范了一遍如何憋气，接着我就下水按照妈妈所教的那样学习憋气，第一次坚持了7秒，第二次坚持了10秒，第三次坚持了12秒。妈妈笑着对我说：“你学得很快，如果憋气的时间能够更长些就更好了。”于是，我继续练习，可是我都没有办法坚持到20秒，因为憋气的时候总感觉胸口堵堵地喘不过气来，非常难受，就把头伸出水面不想再练习了。再看老爷爷，无论遇到什么困难都毫不退缩勇敢地面对。我决定，今年暑假如果疫情结束可以出门，我一定认真练习游泳，直至掌握要领，这样可以提高身体素质，丰富生活。
